Review of The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
Genre: Psychological Thriller, Mystery, Adult Fiction
Rating: 5 stars
I know that I’m a bit late to the train (haha, get it?), but 4 years after it came out, and 3 years after the movie adaptation, I’ve finally read this book.
I LOVED Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl and I’ve been trying to find another book that excites me as much as that one did. I knew this one would do that, so I don’t quite understand why I only picked it up now, even though I had it sitting on my bookshelf for 2 years. However, I’m glad I picked it up when I did since I’ve been in a reading slump for months now and this book finally brought me back to my bookworm self that I’ve been missing.
This book is a well-written psychological thriller, a “whodunnit” with unreliable narrators. All things that I love. And so, I was excited to read this book and it matched my expectations. This book kept me excited and curious to know the rest. It also made me be against drinking even more than I already am. All the characters were horrible people, but I found myself always trying to find the good in them, which added another layer to the reading. The plot twist was not as surprising as I was wanted it to be, but I guess that’s what happens as you read more and more psychological thrillers. Nevertheless, it was a great ending, with a lot of violence (that I was not expecting) and it showed the dark and creepy sides of all the characters.
Overall, I loved it and would read it again. I recommend this book to everyone who is into psychological thrillers and is looking for a dark, creepy, and a bit twisted story to read on the train.
